Important Note:  Most of the workshops are split into multiple sessions. The preferred session timings would be mornings and evenings, as this is generally the best time to do the practice on an empty stomach condition (all class requirements are listed under the "How It Works" tab).

Also, if the sessions are split into multiple days, please ensure that you schedule them to be consecutive days.

Age Limit for all practices is 14+, except the Upa Yoga For Children workshop. This can be offered as a class for children ages 4+, or as a slightly different workshop for ages 7+

The Practices:


Also known as "pre yoga," Upa Yoga is a simple yet powerful set of 10 practices that activate the joints, muscles and energy system, bringing ease to the whole system. Upa yoga is a good starting point for those who are new to yoga, and it can be used as a preparation for other hatha yoga practices. Based on a sophisticated understanding of the body's mechanics, its benefits include:

  • Relieves physical stress and tiredness
  • Strengthens the joints and muscles
  • Rejuvenates the body after periods of inactivity
  • Negates the effect of jet lag and long travel

A full Upa Yoga workshop is approximately 3.5 hours total. This can be 1 session or split up into 2 or 3 sessions.

Surya Kriya is a potent 21-step yogic practice of tremendous antiquity, designed as a holistic process for health, wellness and complete inner wellbeing. Surya Kriya is a fundamental and powerful process of activating the sun within us. It balances a persons energies leading to stability of the body and stillness of the mind. Surya Kriya is a complete spiritual process by itself. It enriches one’s life in many ways:

  • Develops strong mental clarity and focus
  • Boosts vigor and vitality
  • Remedies weak constitutions
  • Balances hormonal levels in the body
  • Prepares one for deeper states of meditation

A full Surya Kriya workshop is approximately 8 hours total. This can be split into 2, 3, or 4 sessions.

Surya Shakti is an active form of the sun salutation. It consists of a powerful sequence of 18 postures and is designed as a holistic process for great physical fitness. “Surya” means “Sun,” and “Shakti” means “energy.” Surya Shakti cultivates strong physical and mental states.

  •  Boosts vigor and vitality
  •  Strengthens the muscles
  •  Tones the digestive system
  •  Corrects hormonal imbalances
  •  Develops mental clarity and focus

A full Surya Shakti workshop is approximately 3.5 hours total. This can be 1 session or split into 2 sessions. (If one has already learned Surya Kriya, it is approximately 1.5 hours total - 1 session.)

Angamardana is a system rooted in yoga, that offers to everyone the opportunity to invigorate the body and to reach peak physical and mental health. “Angamardana” means, gaining complete mastery over the limbs, organs and other parts of the body. This practice revitalizes the body on all levels including the muscles, blood circulation, skeletal structure, nervous system, and the basic energy system. Designed by Sadhguru to be of universal appeal and application, Isha Angamardana needs no fitness equipment. It is a series of 31 dynamic processes that involves only the body and floor exercises that can be practiced anywhere.

  • Strengthens the spine, skeletal and muscular system
  • Builds physical strength, fitness and tenacity
  • Takes years off the body, bringing a sense of lightness and freedom
  • Prepares the body for Hatha Yoga

A full Angamardana workshop is approximately 12 hours total. This can be split into 3, 4, or 5 sessions.

The word asana literally means a posture. Out of the innumerable asanas a body can take, 84 have been identified as Yogasanas through which one can transform the body and mind into a great possibility for ultimate wellbeing. Yogasanas are not exercices, rather very subtle processes to manipulate one’s energy in a particular direction. Body is a constant manifestation of various levels of compulsiveness, and so by consciously getting the body into a certain posture and making it a conducive passage, one can elevate his consciousness. Yogasanas are a way of aligning the inner system and adjusting it to the celestial geometry, becoming in sync with the existence, and thus naturally achieving a chemistry of healthfulness, joyfulness and blissfulness, and above all balance. Consistent practice of Yogasanas has many benefits:

  • Relief of chronic ailments
  • Preparation of body and mind towards a higher possibility
  • Stabilization and balance of the body and mind
  • Slowing down of the aging process

A full Yogasanas workshop is approximately 14 hours total. This can be split into 4, 5, or 6 sessions.

The basis for all creation, including the physical body, is the group of five elements: earth, water, wind, fire, and space. The wellbeing of the body and mind can be established by purifying these five elements within the human system. This process also shapes the body into a stepping stone towards one’s ultimate wellbeing. There is a whole system of yoga called Bhuta Shuddhi, which means “purification of the elements.”  The Bhuta Shuddhi processes offered by Isha provide a unique opportunity for everyone to benefit from this esoteric yogic science, which otherwise requires intense sadhana (spiritual practices). Regular practice of Bhuta Shuddhi benefits the human system in many ways:

  • Keeps the system in harmony and balance
  • Prepares the system to handle powerful states of energy
  • Enhances the capabilities of the physical body, mind, and energy system
  • Creates the basis to gain complete mastery over the human system

A Bhuta Shuddhi class is approximately 1 hour total.

Corrections/Review Session

 

At any time, you can schedule a practice corrections session with Matt. This session will ensure that any poor habits you may be unaware of do not develop and the practices continue to be performed properly. With time and refinement of your form, the experience of the practice continues to deepen and more and more benefits can be reaped. The depth of this exploration can go on as long as you continue the practice, there is no limit or goal to reach. Additional support provided by Matt will always be available through phone and email.

Upa Yoga For Children

Simple and very effective yoga practices are also offered for children. These classes are similar to the Upa Yoga workshop but certain practices vary taking into consideration what the child is able to learn and do properly and safely. These simple practices help strengthen and activate the joints and muscles as well as bring balance mentally and physically. 

Ages 4+ are able to perform certain practices, and ages 7+ are able to perform certain practices. Session lengths vary, please contact Matt to discuss if you're interested.


Specialty Packages

 

A variety of specialty programs can be offered to meet your specific needs. These packages typically would be many sessions (ex. multiple weekends) and comprised of combinations of the above practices specifically designed to provide you support in certain areas of your life that you'd like to address. These packages include corrections sessions with Matt. If you are interested in a specialty package deal please contact Matt to discuss and design a program.
